Best Times to Post on Instagram

Best Times to Post on Instagram

Published on 11th of September 2026

Everyone wants a piece of social media, especially Instagram, in 2026. Consumers are once again increasingly turning to this app for products, services, and information.

It is only natural that business owners and marketers make every effort to increase their presence on the platform by at least 70% (through proper investment). If you want to make an impact on Instagram throughout what is left of 2026, you need to get your posting times right.

Like TikTok, Instagram rewards engagement. Unlike TikTok, most consumers on Instagram prefer a high posting rate.

What this means is that you must not go overboard on TikTok when it comes to posting a certain number of videos per week. But you can post multiple times a week on Instagram, and consumers will easily tolerate it.

However, the timing of your posts makes all the difference. If you don’t post strategically, your content will simply go to waste. You need to know when your existing audience is active so your posts will appear in your followers’ feeds.

Finding the Best Time to Post

There is a consensus that posting on Instagram over a weekend is not the greatest idea. You can obviously choose to post on Saturdays and Sundays, but you need to be aware that you most likely will get very little engagement.

According to data trends in 2026, the best days and times for posting on this platform are:

  • Mondays between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

  • Tuesdays between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.

  • Wednesdays between 12 p.m. and 9 p.m., as well as around 11 p.m.

  • Thursdays between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Social media analysts found that both Tuesdays and Wednesdays are gold mines for engagement, especially between lunchtime and prime time.

Time your Instagram posts on these days at these times, but do your research to ensure that your actual audience is active during those times. If they are not, tweak your posting times a bit, depending on what your Instagram analytics reveal.

How to Choose Days

If you have never considered specific days and times for posting, it can be a bit overwhelming deciding how and where to start. The best thing to do is determine when you can post without distractions, and go from there.

If, for instance, you are mostly free on a Monday, time your uploads between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Some analysts say that you can post between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. to reach those who are getting off work.

If you prefer posting on a Tuesday, you can get up early to upload your content between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. You can also wait to hit the sweet spot, between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. This will allow you to reach people who get up for work early, or those winding down after a long day.

Wednesdays and Thursdays also have a sweet spot at 5 p.m. Wednesday evenings usually see higher activity from people looking for a break from a long workday.

Thursdays tend to see engagement building in the late afternoon. Unfortunately, these times are not feasible for many content creators. So, they opt for posting on a Friday at around 4 p.m. before they head out for the night or the weekend.

Uploading content on a Friday can help content creators reach people between the hours that lie between leaving work (during commute) and planning for a night out.

If you do decide to post over the weekend, your best bet for some engagement is at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. on a Saturday. These times have been proven to align with scrollers who lie in or wind down early for the evening.

Or you can try uploading new content on a Sunday between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sundays are typically great for content creators who upload inspiration or motivation posts, as they can reach users who are relaxing before preparing for Monday.

Does Content Type Make a Difference?

Uploading content at the right time is only part of the plan to getting more engagement. The type of content you upload also makes a big difference.

For instance, if you post Reels on a Wednesday and Thursday night between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m., you have the best chance of increased engagement.

Posting a carousel will likely give you a higher chance of engagement if you post it on a Wednesday at 12 p.m. or 6 p.m., or on a Thursday at 9 a.m.

The rules completely change when it comes to Instagram Stories. Instagram users love browsing stories, so you should post them daily, at least twice if you can.

Posting According to Industry Type

If you are posting to promote a business, whether your own or a company you work for, the industry also matters.

For example, if you are in the retail industry, your best engagement is likely to happen on Wednesdays and Fridays between 12 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Those promoting travel and hospitality typically find higher engagement on their posts on Mondays and Thursdays between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Health and wellness posts generally perform well on Mondays and Wednesdays between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.

In comparison, content about technology and software performs well on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

From the analyzed data, it seems that the only industry that really sees notable engagement on a Saturday is the beauty and fashion sector. If you are in this industry, you can post between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on either a Saturday or a Thursday.

Determining When Your Audience Is Active

If you know when your existing audience is active on Instagram, you can be sure your posts reach them. Once you have determined the peak active times via Instagram analytics, time your uploads to go live just before the peak time slots.

When you are in a posting rhythm, track the engagement and conversions you get. Instagram Insights can help you with this, too. If your initial posts aren't getting much traction, experiment with different times.

It is said that, globally, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. can mean more engagement, but don’t rely solely on that.

Avoiding Mistakes When Working Out a Schedule

When you are working out your schedule, focus more on rhythm than exact timing. You do not need to upload your posts on the dot, but you need to choose mornings, afternoons, or evenings so your audience knows when to look out for new content.

This means that you don’t have to watch the clock strike 5 p.m. and then scramble to upload on time. Instead, choose what part of the day gives you the most flexibility to sit down and upload your posts and stick to it.

If you are a couple of minutes late, it won’t make a difference. Also, your own research is what will ultimately benefit you since your specific audience engages at a specific time.

Remember to switch up your content types and make sure you respond to the interactions you get, especially in the first hour after posting.

Finalizing Your Posting Strategy

At the end of the day, getting more engagement on Instagram in 2026 will come down to smart timing and great content. If your content is mediocre, it won’t matter when you post. If your content is excellent, your timing may not even matter all that much.

So, get your content in order, test different posting times, and adjust as needed.
