5 Ways to Inspire Your Followers On Instagram

August 06, 2019

There may be a million reasons why you started an Instagram account—to promote your business, for brand awareness, etc.—but one reason that stands out to you is the need to help other people, to inspire. That is, after all, the reason you may have started your brand or business in the first place, too.

The problem is that you don’t know how to inspire people. You’re not sure what to say or do. So how do influencers with huge followings inspire people? Or think about it this way, how do your biggest inspirations inspire you? What are they doing and what are they saying that you could apply to inspire your own followers?

1. Share your life

One of the best ways to inspire your followers is to go on with your life like you usually do, but share it on Instagram. This may sound too simple, but hear me out. There are hundreds of thousands of people who talk a big talk about what they’re “going to do” but conveniently never get around to actually doing it.

So, what you’re going to do is announce a few of your goals publicly, then you can show yourself working to reach those goals every single day. You’re going to do it in the form of stories, lives, posts, and IGTV. You’re going to show the process, the hard work, and all the stuff in between. That will inspire your followers to do the same thing: work toward their goals.

2. Post your own inspirational quotes

There are already countless accounts that are posting quotes that celebrities or well known brands have said. There’s nothing wrong with sharing a quote that inspired you every now and then, but you want to stand out and be original. Instead, give your followers quotes that you came up with to motivate and inspire them. You don’t want to inspire your followers with someone else’s words, right?

What I recommend is sitting down for a half hour and writing down anything inspirational you come up with. You’re basically batching. After, you’re going to hop into Canva to create unique content to your brand, then share it on Instagram. Once you see that your own words get hundreds of likes, you’ll realize the work was worth it.

3. Upload stories in which you give short motivational speeches

Instagram stories are great because they’re only fifteen seconds long. Yes, you can keep holding down the button to continue a story, but you don’t have to do that unless you really want a longer one.

Anyway, on Instagram stories, you can jump in for a few seconds and give a short motivational speech. It doesn’t have to be anything grand, it just has to be something that will motivate your followers to take the action you’d like them to take.

You could say, “Hey, guys! I’m on my way to a coffee shop right now to get some work done, and I just wanted to remind you that if you have dreams, you have to turn them into goals, and you turn them into goals by working on them. So stop viewing this and get back to work!” If I saw that, I’d remember that I shouldn’t be on Instagram, and get back to what I’m supposed to be doing.

4. Share stories of when you overcame something

You don’t have to always give real-time short and sweet motivational speeches. I know for a fact that you’ve gone through some things in your life that you didn’t think you were going to overcome. You may have felt afraid or hopeless, but here you are, still standing.

It doesn’t matter what the story is about or if it has “nothing to do with your brand.” If you have a story in which you overcame all the odds, or did something crazy even though you were terrified, that’s a story you want to tell.

Stories are powerful. Share them not only because your followers will appreciate you opening up to them, but because you’ll help someone who may be having the same struggle, or inspire someone to do what you did. They’ll, “Feel the fear, and do it anyway,” as Susan Jeffers says.

5. Use Instagram stickers to your advantage

Another great way you could inspire people is by allowing them to interact with you via Instagram stickers in your stories. I’m going to give examples of how you can use stickers and what questions to ask to inspire and/or motivate your audience. (I will not be explaining how the stickers work, but you can check that out here.)

The questions sticker

  • What is your number one goal for today?
  • What are you working on this week to reach your next goal?
  • What are you getting done in the next hour?
  • What’s your ‘why’ for the project you’re working on right now?

The poll sticker

  • Are you going to kick butt today?
  • Are you going to crush your goals this year?
  • Will you be making today a great day?
  • Will today be THE day you finally get started?

The emoji slider sticker

  • How hard are you going to hustle?
  • How confident are you that you’re going to do something amazing today?
  • How much do you love what you do?
  • How are you feeling about the day ahead?

The countdown sticker

There’s not much you can do with the countdown sticker, interaction wise, but it could be a fun way to band together with your followers. For example, let’s say you set a goal to wake up at five tomorrow, something you’ve never done, and you told your followers about it.

You could turn it into a group challenge in which you could say, “You know what, what if we did it together? A Five a.m. Challenge, who’s in?” Then, you would set the countdown for five in the morning tomorrow. This is a smart way to not only inspire your followers to take action, but to remind your followers that you’re in this together.
