Here’s How To Create Holiday-Themed Posts to Engage Your Audience on Instagram

Published on 27th of January 2019

December is here, and holiday-themed posts on Instagram from just about every brand or business will be ubiquitous. This is a bandwagon you want to jump on.

First, I wanted to ease your mind in case you had any objections to holiday-themed posts because you think they’re childish, cheesy, or lame. If you don’t know how to do it right, your post can come out looking childish, cheesy, and lame. However, there are ways to make your holiday-themed posts look professional, engaging, and aesthetic.

December is filled with holidays, and these holidays also serve as trends. I’m know you’re aware that as a business or brand, you have to follow said trends. This is why it’s important that you know how to create engaging holiday-themed posts.

10 platforms you can use to edit social media posts:

We’re not going into detail with these platforms because that would take the entire article, but here are ten platforms you can utilize for your holiday-themed posts. They’re all free! Try a few (or all) of them out to see which works best for you.

  1. Canva
  2. Photoshop
  3. Phonto
  4. Placeit
  5. Adobe Spark
  6. Desygner
  7. Aviary
  8. PicMonkey
  9. DesignFeed
  10. Photor

Here’s how to create holiday-themed posts to engage your audience on Instagram

1. Add holiday-related pictures

For example, you can find a picture of a Christmas tree, candles, presents, lights, a menorah, a dreidel, or a kinara. Don’t just find any cheesy image or add on a Microsoft-like sticker, find a beautiful image on Unsplash.

Then, you can add text or just post the picture and add a caption!

2. Add graphics

Holding a Smartphone in front of an ImacCanva, in my opinion, is especially great for this. They’ve got numerous graphics available, and just about anything you type into the search bar on Canva will have a graphic. With graphics, you can play around with how you place them, the colors you use, the transparency, and the sizes.

You can add multiple Christmas trees and place them randomly to give your post a pattern, or you can place one huge menorah in the middle of your plain-colored background, make it transparent, and then add text over or around it.

Sometimes it takes a while to make something you’re satisfied with, but in the end, once you see the amounts of likes and comments you receive, the work will be worth it.

3. Use holiday-related props

You don’t always have to edit your pictures to make them holiday-themed. If you’re willing to spend money, you can also buy props. Michaels, for example, sells mini items like Christmas trees, snowmen, and Santa Clauses.

You can go to any store right now and find different types of decoration you can use as props (for your own pictures and for product pictures). For example, you can hang lights behind you, set up balloons to celebrate the new year, or hold up a mug in front of a Christmas tree.

Have a photography day! Buy props, then spend the day playing around with them. Take enough pictures to use for the entire month.

4. Make holiday related products

If you make any of the products I named above, you can draw a dreidel for your mug, design a reindeer for your t-shirt, or crochet a Santa clause doll. When you take pictures of your products, you can add other props around them. However, you want to make sure that you’re not making the prop your main focus by accident.

For example, if you have a mug with a dreidel on it, you can take a picture of the mug in front of a menorah. Just make sure that you don’t give the menorah too much attention. You want people to be staring at your mugs.

5. Share holiday songs

On Instagram stories, you have the option to share music. You do this by using the ‘music’ option. The music option is at the bottom of the story where the other options like ‘live’ and ‘superzoom’ are.

When you click it, you’ll find songs that others are using, or you can search for one. A trending song right now is “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas” by Michael Bublé. What you do is click the song, then you get an option to choose which part of the song you’d like to use.

From there, you click the button with the music note on it, and the song is added to your story in the form of a sticker. You then continue as usual to record a story, and then upload it. The song will play behind your story.

6. Go live & share stories

We’ve talked over and over again about the importance of sharing behind the scenes. While you may not want to go live during the actual holidays (unless your family and friends don’t mind), you can go live beforehand.

You can go live or record stories while you’re walking around looking at the lights, picking out a Christmas tree, lighting a candle, baking and cooking, and anything else you can come up with! Your followers will love to be included.
